Canada Vein Clinics offers endovenous vein ablation at 8 clinics across the Greater Toronto Area. Ablation closes the faulty vein that causes varicose veins, done in clinic under local anaesthetic, with no hospital stay. Call 647-492-7246 or toll-free 1-888-876-8346.
What is vein ablation?
Varicose veins usually come from a leaking vein deeper in the leg, most often the great or small saphenous vein. Endovenous ablation treats that vein from the inside, through a small entry point, guided by ultrasound. Once the faulty vein is closed, blood reroutes through healthy veins and the bulging veins on the surface settle.
Canada Vein Clinics offers three ways to close the vein:
- Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA): laser energy seals the vein from the inside. More about EVLA.
- VenaSeal: a medical adhesive closes the vein, with no heat. It is the treatment we perform most often.
- ClariVein: a rotating catheter combined with a sclerosing medication closes the vein, with no heat.
Smaller surface veins are often treated afterwards with sclerotherapy. Your standing duplex ultrasound and consultation show which option fits your veins.

Coverage and cost
With a referral from your doctor or nurse practitioner, the ultrasound and consultation are covered by OHIP. The ablation itself is not covered by OHIP; many patients use a Health Spending Account. You receive a written cost estimate before anything is booked.
Frequently asked questions
Is EVLA the same as EVLT?
Yes. Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) are two names for the same procedure.
Do I need a referral?
A referral from your family doctor or nurse practitioner lets OHIP cover the ultrasound and consultation. You can still call us without one; fees then apply to the assessment.
How long does ablation take, and when can I go back to normal activity?
The procedure is done in clinic under local anaesthetic and you walk out the same day. Most patients return to their usual daily activities quickly; your physician will tell you when to resume strenuous exercise.
Who leads Canada Vein Clinics?
