Canada Vein Clinics was founded by Dr. Alexander Matz, one of Canada’s leading authorities on venous insufficiency. He is a member of professional organizations including the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, the American College of Phlebology, and the International Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Whether you are dealing with problematic varicose veins or you simply want to make sure your venous system is healthy, the team at our state-of-the-art vein clinic can help you!
What Services Does Canada Vein Clinics Provide?
Canada Vein Clinics offers a variety of treatments for spider and varicose veins. Unlike many plastic surgeons who treat spider and varicose veins as simply cosmetic problems, Dr. Matz and his staff treat both conditions as signs of an underlying and potentially serious problem called venous insufficiency.
Canada Vein Clinics provides treatments that include the following:
• Sclerotherapy
• Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
• Mini-phlebectomy
• VenaSeal
• ClariVein treatment
All of the above procedures are far less invasive than vein stripping or surgically removing varicose veins. This is just one of the reasons why so many people in Ottawa visit our vein clinic for venous treatment.
What is Venous Insufficiency?
Venous insufficiency is a common medical condition that affects 15 to 25 percent of all adults, and it affects at least half of the adults over 50. It is particularly common in older women.
Under normal conditions, the veins transport blood back to the heart to pick up oxygen and distribute it to the rest of the body. Veins have valves that keep the blood flowing in the correct direction. In a person with venous insufficiency, those valves don’t work properly. Consequently, the blood accumulates within the vein. In the vast majority of cases, venous insufficiency develops in the lower legs because the veins have to work against gravity to send the blood back to the heart.
Spider veins and varicose veins are both symptoms of venous insufficiency. Other symptoms of venous insufficiency can include the following:
• Swelling in the legs
• Heaviness in the legs
• Trouble walking
• Discoloration
• Cramps
• A burning sensation
• Tingling
• Restless legs
