Venous insufficiency is one of the most common medical conditions in the world, and many people will contract some form of varicose veins due to the normal wear and tear of the body. Age alters many of the tissues in our bodies, and the circulatory system is exposed to more stress than any other system. Varicose veins are one uncomfortable side effect of incompetent veins and their valves. When a varicose vein forms, walking can become painful and can keep people from normal daily activities. This lack of movement can lead to weight gain, and this excess weight is enough to make the condition of varicose veins progress further. Our Mini-Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that only requires micro-incisions without any stitching or scarring.
Mini-Phlebectomy Treatment
An Alternative for the Treatment of Varicose Veins
Depending on the depth and volume of your varicose veins, your Canada Vein Clinics physician will recommend one of our advanced treatment options. Treating varicose veins can be much simpler than you realize. The invasive varicose vein removal, or complete stripping (vein ligation), is not the only option to remove varicose veins. There are non-surgical options that can help to close varicose veins by removing or disabling sections of the unhealthy vein. At Canada Vein Clinics, we recommend the Mini-Phlebectomy (ambulatory phlebectomy) in conjunction with the EVLT, ClariVein or VenaSeal treatments.
What happens during the Mini-Phlebectomy treatment?
The Mini-Phlebectomy treatment is performed directly in the clinic, so there is no required hospital stay. We begin the Mini-Phlebectomy procedure with a topical anesthetic, as tiny incisions are made into the skin of the affected area.
Two tiny incisions allow a point of entry for small hook-like tools to grasp the affected veins. These tools are inserted into the incisions and are guided by ultrasound to move through the intricacies of the veins.
Once the physician finds the best point to begin removal of the affected varicose veins, they take hold of them with the tools. The hooks will gradually pull the veins to the surface of the skin. As the veins are being delicately pulled from the skin through these incisions, some pressure is applied to clot the incision area and a small bandage is placed over them. No stitches are required.
What should I expect after the treatment?
There are no stitches involved in this procedure, so only post-op treatment bandages are required, as are compression stockings to support the treated area. Usually, a time frame of two to three weeks is required to complete the healing process. There is relatively no pain after the procedure, but we recommended that heavy activity be avoided directly following the procedure. Light walking is however encouraged to promote the redirection of blood flow throughout the deep leg veins. The success of this procedure is 98%, and the removal of these varicose veins is complete and long-lasting.
Benefits of having a Mini-Phlebectomy:
- Avoid painful surgery
- Small incisions
- Minimally invasive
- Treatment under one hour
- Procedure in clinic
- Promotes circulation
- Alleviates pain
- Reduces appearance of varicose veins
Due to the high success rate of Mini-Phlebectomy, we recommend this non-surgical procedure for those whose varicose veins are in the early stages.
The Mini-Phlebectomy will remove veins too large and prominent for Sclerotherapy treatment. Our skilled physicians will generally pair this procedure with ClariVein, EVLT or VenaSeal treatments as they help to correct reflux and any chronic vein insufficiency.
Your CVC physician will discuss all of your treatment options and explain the benefits of each. Not every patient is the same, and nor are our treatments. Let us help you find the way to healthy, beautiful legs. Contact us today to schedule your assessment and consultation.
