Your body is composed of numerous veins. The veins are responsible for carrying previously circulated blood throughout the body back to the heart. Because of this, they are a pivotal part of your circulation. If the veins aren’t healthy and functional, or one-way valves within the veins are weak, it can cause excessive pressure to build up in your veins. Since the blood isn’t able to make it to the heart as it should, it ends up pooling inside of your veins and siphoning off deep veins to surface veins that can help to relieve the pressure. These enlarged surface veins are referred to as varicose veins. Things like pregnancy, obesity and sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time can all cause varicose veins to form as well.
While varicose veins might signal a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), this condition is rare but varicose veins can be an indicator of chronic vein insufficiency. At Canada Vein Clinics we make sure to offer full vein scans and diagnoses of vein conditions to help our clients decide on treatments or help them to make life changes. Because of this, you can often treat your varicose veins using any number of different herbal remedies and changing your lifestyle around for the better. To help promote the healing process, check out some of these herbal remedies below.
Horse Chestnut
Not only can horse chestnut treat varicose veins, but it can also treat chronic venous insufficiency. This astringent can help improve blood circulation. Horse chestnut’s main ingredient is aescin. Aescin prevents enzymes from being released, thus helping to protect the capillary walls. It helps with pain and swelling, as well as strengthening of the blood vessel walls.
Aim for 300 milligrams of the extract two times per day. Make sure the extract contains 50 milligrams of aescin. If you are taking any anti-platelet blood-thinning drugs or anticoagulants, you might want to avoid taking this herb. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers need to speak with a physician before using horse chestnut.
Fuller’s Earth Pack
Fuller’s Earth was often used to treat skin issues. Indian folklore refers to the herb as multani mitti. This toner and cleanser is loaded with absorbent properties. The herb contains ample amounts of calcium which work to decrease swelling. Make a paste out of the herb using water and a couple of tablespoons of Fuller’s Earth. Mix it together to form a nice, thick paste.
Apply the paste wherever you are dealing with the varicose veins. Allow the paste to stay on overnight. It will dry after sitting for a few minutes. Once it has dried, you shouldn’t have any problems sleeping with it on. In the morning, wash it off like you normally would any night cream.
Cabbage Poultice
Cabbage is loaded with vitamins A, B1, B2, C, E, K, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, copper, phosphorus, fiber and sulfur. Because of this, cabbage is a great addition to any diet. Thanks to the presence of sulfur, vitamin K, potassium and vitamin U (more commonly known as S-methylmethionine), cabbage makes a great remedy for those struggling with varicose veins. Since cabbage is packed with sulfur, it helps destroy any ferments in your blood. This helps alleviate ulcers and any surrounding infections. All you need to do is apply the cabbage leaves to the veins and allow them to cure the swelling and pain from the ulcers.
Start by washing the cabbage leaves. Then, chop them as finely as you can. Add in enough water to form a paste. Apply that paste to your varicose veins. Use a linen cloth to wrap around the part of your body where you applied the paste. Beyond holding the paste where you need it to stay, it also allows your skin to breathe. Allow the mixture to sit for a few hours. Then, wash the paste off. Continue repeating the same process a couple of times every day.

Consultation
by Alan. Trufal
Category: generalAfter 3 veinous ultrasounds, due to a swollen left leg and painful ankle when walking, I got my doctor to refer me to Canada Vein Clinic. Another ultrasound was done in house. I lucked into a virtual consultation with Dr. Matz himself, shortly after , fully expecting a recommendation for one of the vein treatments . Laser was what I expected. Much to my surprise , after being asked a number of questions relating to my symptoms, Dr. Matz suggested that there was no serious vein problem . He recommended an arterial ultrasound, which was also done in house , shortly afterwards. Before I forget , I would also like to thank the staff , and in particular Sasha , for all her help and concern. It appears that I do have minor vein and artery issues in my left leg. But , nothing that would require any intervention at this point in time. I cannot thank Dr. Matz enough. I believe he is a very honest , caring and most competent doctor . If I ever do need a vein procedure , I will return to have Dr. Matz do it.
VenaSeal

Category: generalGreat experience at Canada Vein Clinic. I had the procedure done approximately 3 years ago to remove my varicose veins. It has taken me this long to leave a review because I wanted to be sure it lasted. It has! I was VERY nervous, but on the day of the procedure felt comfortable and confident that I was "in good hands". The actual procedure was not painful and not even uncomfortable. However, 3 or 4 days after, I did develop pain and discomfort (because I did not follow instructions). It was recommended that I apply Arnica and I did not. When I developed the pain, I did start applying the Arnica and within a day everything was as it should be. Highly recommend Canada Vein Clinic. Very professional, courteous, and informative. And my leg is still smooth and vein free after 3 years!
Venalseal
by Gisele McCann
Category: vein therapyI had contacted Dr.Matz at the Canada Vein Clinic to have removal of some very large veins reviewd. Since I have some medical issues, Dr.Matz suggested that the safest way to achieve this would be with the venaseal procedure. Ultrasounds confirmed that this would be the safest way. I was aware that it may not result in a 100% result. The procedure was basically pain free with a minimal amount of bruising and very fast recovery. Multible Ultrasound checks over 1 years Confirmed that the procedure was successful and improved with time. I submitted pictures for a telephone consultation with Dr.Matz and was assured that minor issues could be addressed at a later date. I was treated with the utmost professionalism by Dr.Matz and the clicic staff. I would recommend to get an assessment by Drt.Matz at Canada Vein Clinics. GMCC
Never felt better

Category: vein therapyOne year ago I got my various veins done. My legs have never felt better. It is expensive but well worth it.
Venaseal Treatment
by Francesco Giordano
Category: vein therapyMy varicose vein was so bad that my calf was almost double the size of the other one. After my Venaseal treatment with Dr. Matz, it has shrunk down to the same as the other one with some minor bruising as the only evidence left of the varicose vein. All the staff at the clinic were friendly and kind. Overall it was a great experience.
