Hiking is the perfect way to stretch out the muscles that can support healthy veins and promote blood circulation. Healthy veins keep varicose veins at bay, so pack your picnic baskets and check out some of the best hiking trails near Orleans and Ottawa. Here are some of our favorite trails:
Mer Bleue Trail (10 km)
This hiking trail is located on the Greenbelt in Ottawa. It’s a vast marshy wetland that is diverse and littered with ten kilometers worth of looped easy to mild level trails, which take you through low impact hills and beautifully shadowed forest areas. On this trail, there are picnic tables that will allow you stop off and enjoy the ever-changing terrain from prairie land to heavy wooden brush. You may even get a peek at some of the area’s gorgeous birds; birdwatchers love this trail!
King Mountain Trail (2 km)
A relatively short trail located in Chelsea, King Mountain is a historic site known for the rock formations and the incredible view of River Valley. You will be surrounded by trees of different breeds and enjoy the brisk incline that will lead you straight to the top of paradise. The best view is seen right after a few windy days that sweep the clouds away for an unobstructed view. There’s a reason why they named it King Mountain – you’ll feel like royalty up here.
Lauriault Trail (3 km)
Lauriault trail is also located in Chelsea, and is known for its gorgeous and lush terrain. You can see valleys, mountains, hills, flowing rivers and waterfalls cascading halfway through as reward. This hike is known to be the best during spring, but can be done in the summer just the same; however, the water levels in the falls may be reduced. There are a variety of lookout points to feast your eyes on all the beauty that the area has to offer.
Wolf Trail (8.9 km)
This is a difficult trail that is both lengthy and steep. If you’re practiced and ambitious, this hike will open your eyes to the world of nature as wildlife runs free here. Bears and beavers inhabit these dense woods and thickly carpeted mountain ridges. This trail will take you to the highest point of the hills, but you should use caution, as it can be a steep climb that requires extra care. If you’re a skillful hiker and ready to experience everything sensory in nature, try the Wolf trail. It won’t disappoint.
At Canada Vein Clinics, we always encourage regular exercise to help boost movement for healthy veins. And when this regular exercise takes places in the outdoors, the benefits extend beyond just vein health, allowing patients to become connected with their community, and with the natural beauty that surrounds it. When participating in any exercise program, remember that stretching before and after moderate to intense activity will promote elasticity and strength within the veins. Elastic veins are efficient in pushing blood back up from the legs to the heart, and strong muscles will support this activity to keep your legs varicose vein free.
