Why can pregnancy cause varicose veins to appear?

This can put extra pressure on the veins in your legs, causing them to have to work harder to push the blood back up to your heart. Another factor includes the weight gain associated with pregnancy. During pregnancy extra pressure is put on your veins, as a result of this you can expect to potentially see varicose veins develop.
Can I prevent varicose veins from appearing while pregnant?
The best way to prevent varicose veins from developing is to routinely wear compression stockings. Another way to prevent the development of varicose veins is to try and keep active. Lots of walking allows your legs to keep the blood flowing, whereas, if you are seated or standing for prolonged periods of time, your blood can begin to pool. However, with the added pressure and weight gain it is not certain that this will effectively prevent varicose veins from forming while you are pregnant.
Will my varicose veins go away after pregnancy?
In the majority of cases, there is a good chance that your varicose veins will disappear in a few months post pregnancy. But, it is important to realize that if you are pregnant again, there is nothing stopping you from developing varicose veins during another pregnancy. If you do not notice the veins disappearing several months after pregnancy, you can always consider treatment to remove the veins.
